Sony Playstation...possibly the greatest
gaming console of all time. With a huge share of
the current 32-bit market Sony is hoping to cash in on the popularity of
its current
machine with the PSX2. Can they do a repeat and succeed with another machine?
I
think so. With industry giants like Square, Eidos and many others backing
them up how
could they go wrong? If they keep their current 3rd party support the PSX2
could
possibly dominate the home console market for years to come.
There's only one problem with their current plan for Playstation 2...the
time of release.
With Sega Dreamcast scheduled for a Fall 1999 release and Project X as
early as late
'98 where does PSX2 fall? First off 1999 is out of the question. It would
be highly
unlikely they would release a new system when their current machine is
doing so well
and will probably continue to do well into 1999. So this means Sega will
beat PSX2 to
the market for an early lead. And with Sega promising better software then
all the other
competitors Sony will really have to come out with great launch titles
to keep its current
ranking at #1. But without great launch titles PSX2 will have alot of catching
up to do
like N64 had with the Playstation. But if there's a company out there that
can pull it off
its Sony. Keep it here for all the current news and rumors on the PSX2!
The following are strictly rumors! Sony has not released official specs
for the PSX2 and
probably won't for about another year. Although Sony has shown the PSX2
to some
developers they are extremely quiet about any possible specs. The specs
on this page
are just rumors and shouldn't be taken as official specs. We compiled these
specs to the
best of our ability.
CPU: 266 - 400 Mhz (most likely it will be faster then the DC...there are
also rumors
that it will be 256 bit)
Graphics Chip: rendering capacity of over 4 million polygons per second
Sound Processor: probably very close to what the DC brings under the hood
Main Memory: 24 MB (SDRAM), 6 MB of Texture RAM
CD-ROM Drive: DVD or 32 speed CD-ROM
On-board Modem: 56Kbps
Resolution: 640X480 in 16-bit color
There are no images of the actual
PSX2 in existance. There are however a ton of fake
images around the 'net that you can find. Any Playstation fan site should
have them.
They aren't real but for those of you who would do anything for a glimpse
at what the
PSX2 might look like should check them out.
